Some of My Favorite Health Products

Everything on this page is something I’ve used on a regular basis for quite some time. My husband is a lifelong fitness enthusiast and science nerd. Most of the supplements we utilize are because he’s done all of the research on them due to health concerns.

Near the end I’ve listed some really great teas that I love. I’ve also included a coffee replacement drink called Boost Blend, that’s super delicious and full of great stuff! I know loads of people trying to get away from coffee and I’m one of them. Although I dearly love Mr. Morning Jo, I have found that limiting the caffeine I ingest helps reduce my anxiety. I’m constantly on the hunt for anything to improve my sleep quality, so limiting the caffeine also helps with this. Don’t fail to check out the last two products. I consider them the best of the lot.

Come to think of it, I should do a whole blog on teas and hot drinks. I’ve only touched on a couple of our favorites. We use so many more!

Ah well, next time!

Speaking of health concerns! Back in 2009, my husband had a heart attack which resulted in the Doctor putting in a stint. For the most part he’s done very well, but his blood pressure has often been ridiculously high. Last year his cardiologist once again had concerns again about Charlie’s heart, so that set my dear husband on a mission to find a NON pharmaceutical solution.

I have to be admit to being a skeptic. For months he spoke about wanting to try superbeets, but I brushed it off. We’ve all seen the commercials. I just didn’t buy into the claim that a little chewy thing would make any difference at all. Finally, without my knowledge, he ordered a package and started taking them. He kept telling me over and over how much better they were making him feel. I still didn’t really believe it.

Fast forward a few months. He went to his next Cardiology appointment and low and behold, his blood pressure was dramatically different. It was normal. He’s been taking them ever since. WHAT!?

I am actually the one who found the “Memory and Focus Chews”. These are put out by the same company as the superbeets, so I thought I would give them a try because…

We live with and care for my 92 year old father who sometimes has clarity issues. I thought he might benefit from trying these as they actually promote memory & focus (hence the name) and also mental alertness. The ingredient list impressed me as well. I can’t tolerate anything with a lot of added sugar in it. (This only has 2 grams.)

Of course I was the Guinee pig and tried these out before giving them to my father. I am happy to report they absolutely do work. I honestly did feel more clarity when I took them! They aren’t cheap, so now my father is the only one who takes one each morning. I am happy to report, there is a noticeable difference in his memory. (I failed to mention that these somehow promote blood flow to the brain.) I swear this is why we can tell such a difference in Dad.

Bonus? They taste GREAT!

Did you know that almost all of us are magnesium deficient? I didn’t. That is, until I started watching Tiktok videos and then I did a deep dive into the actual research and facts behind this claim. It turns out to be true.

I kept seeing all of these people talk about how pure magnesium can improve your sleep and that it’s difficult to find magnesium supplements that actually contain the right type and in the correct concentration. That set me on a course of researching what is good about this mineral.

Turns out there are many benefits. The top five: It helps to maintain normal nerve and muscle function, supports a healthy immune system, keeps the heartbeat steady, and helps bones remain strong. It also helps adjust blood glucose levels and it aids in the production of energy and protein.

I tried a lot of different things. First I tried a pure magnesium spray. As instructed, I sprayed it on the bottom of my feet every night before bed. Yes, it worked, but it was too harsh and caused my feet to peel. Then I tried spraying it under my arms every morning. This worked as well, and the bonus is that it’s a great deodorant, but I didn’t enjoy the stinging sensation.

Finally, I found the bath flakes. I love them. This company also makes a nighttime bath salt that I’ve used it occasionally . It is heavenly.

Raise your hand if you have heard of the Amino Acid, L-Tyrosine. Anyone?

Anyone?

If you suffer from any type of depression, this stuff is your friend. Charlie and I take one each morning. There are no noticeable effects. This is the type of thing that you don’t notice working until you’ve forgotten to take it for a few days and are wondering why you feel so blah.

Again, thanks to Tiktok, I started to learn about pure Castor Oil. I remember someone in my family used to tell stories about the olden days, when mother’s would force a spoonful of castor oil into each of her children to keep them healthy.

This is NOT that. It’s not for consumption.

This is a therapeutic grade that I initially bought for my hair and scalp because it has a mind of its own and Castor Oil treatments help to tame it.

Additionally, Pure Castor Oil is well known to have eyelash and eyebrow enhancing benefits. When used regularly, it improves blood circulation and promotes growth so you’ll experience stronger, thicker, and healthier eyelashes and eyebrows.

Finally, I slather it on my stomach every night and it goes to work helping my stomach issues. The few occasions I’ve gotten my husband to do it, he’s reported that it really helped him. He is not a fan of how thick the oil is, however, so it’s hard to get him to use it regularly.

There are literally hundreds of uses for this stuff. Some use it as a carrier oil for essential oils and massage. Some use it as a poultice to help dissolve cysts or improve liver function. The list goes on and on.

Trouble sleeping? We call this “Happy Tea” in our house because it literally works. About an hour before bed, we each have a cup. The valerian root is what causes the drowsiness and sense of well-being.

This tea company also makes another Nighttime tea but we have found that unless it’s the Valerian root Nighty Night tea, is doesn’t work for us. Also, for whatever reason our local stores never carry the Valerian version, so we order several boxes at a time from Amazon.

While I’m on the subject of tea! Oh my goodness there are so many out there that have such wonderful health benefits. I’ve been a tea drinker my entire life (usually just black tea), but lately we’ve been exploring the health benefits of different types of leaves.

Nettle tea is great for anyone experiencing kidney and/or prostate issues, which is why we tried this in the first place. My husband really loves the taste and so do I. He uses a little bit of local honey to sweeten his. I like mine plain.

Here are some of the benefits of Nettle Tea:

  • Keeps blood sugar and blood pressure levels in check.
  • Useful in preventing many ailments.
  • Alleviates pain.
  • Soothes allergies and skin irritation.
  • Protects kidney, urinary, and prostate health.
  • Strengthens the bones.
    • Boosts the immune system.

I have saved the best two items for last! Seriously!

I learned about this drink from several of my good friends on Instagram. The Allura Superfoods Boost Blend was designed to be a coffee substitute or afternoon pick-me-up for those that want to cut down on their caffeine.

A lot of people are scared to give up coffee because they don’t want the headaches that come along with giving up caffeine. I’m here to tell you that I drank this every morning for a solid month and never experienced that first headache.

PS: One of my friends actually drinks this for her hair growth. Sounds weird but it’s so healthy, it actually fortified her hair and it grew a couple of inches in a short period of time!

The ingredient list (and my curiosity) is what got me:

  • Cacao (not cocoa!): Powerful antioxidant (mainly flavanols)
  • Matcha: High in natural antioxidants
  • Beetroot: Rich in nitrates and vitamins & minerals
  • Cordyceps: Medicinal mushroom promotes energy
  • Reishi: Natice to Asia, the Reishi mushroom has been used to help enhance the immune system, reduce stress, improve sleep, and lessen fatigue.
  • Lion’s Mane: An adaptogenic mushroom that contains bioactive substances
  • Also contains, organic Turmeric Powder, Himalayan Sea Salt, Organic Vietnamese Cinnamon and Organic ground black pepper.

Mineral Shilajit

What to say about this stuff? This is also sold by Allura Superfoods (same people that make Boost Blend). I started taking it at the exact time I was experimenting with the Boost Blend, above. In fact, just moments ago, I placed my order for some more. It lasts a very long time. The photo above illustrates the very small amount needed each day. Some people drink it just as shown above-as a tea, dissolved in hot water. I’ve never tried it this way. Instead, I dissolve mine into my Boost Blend or other hot drink.

The main benefit I’ve noted through taking just a pea-size portion of this once per day (you can take it up to 3 times daily), is better mental clarity, definitely less brain fog, great energy and general good health. This also helps improve the condition of my skin! (That’s the main reason I keep reordering it!)

What is Shilajit & Where Does it Come From?
Shilajit is a completely natural substance that is made from the decomposition of organic matter by the action of microorganisms. It is found high up in
several mountain ranges around the world, but mainly in the Himalayas. Shilajit is mostly composed of humic substances (organic matter),
including fulvic acid. It is best known for being an Ayurvedic supplement that has been used for centuries. It is a potent dietary supplement and
mainly used for restoring the energetic balance.

This stuff is NOT cheap, but it is totally worth it.

Okay that’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed this tour of things we use in order to stay healthy. I promise I won’t be doing this type of thing all the time (unless you like it). It takes forever to put together!

Be on the lookout for my next recipe: Balsamic Mushrooms. I’ll be posting it shortly!
